Being silent for a day isn't easy. So, for 10 years, the Alliance has organized Nights of Noise to break the silence and celebrate the resilience of LGBTQ+ youth. This year, our Night of Noise is also our kick off event for our 10th Anniversary Celebrations and we want to Break the Silence with you

All proceeds will benefit the work of the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance. 

 

In the wake of the election results, many of us are wrestling with unanswered questions and complex emotions. These can be difficult and confusing to talk about especially with our young people with whom we want to provide a safe space, encourage the expression of divergent views and model respectful discourse. But how do we go about doing that?! The Education and Training Committee has compiled some resources to help you! While not an exhaustive list, it is our hope they will provide a foundation from which to foster growth and healing.

More than 27% of students in Illinois Pre-K-12 schools are in a gender inclusive environment with clear policies, procedures, and practices that ensure access to education in accordance with gender identity.

That’s 565,642 students across Illinois.

Melissa Ockerman is an Associate Professor at DePaul University’s Counseling Program, and serves on the Alliance’s Board as well as our Education and Training (E.A.T) Committee. She speaks to us about her Alliance journey as well as the specialized professional development and training on LGBTQ inclusion and safety that we provide for school administrators, staff, and students across Illinois.
